Cybergeddon likely to be caused by 'glorious cock-up'
Cybergeddon is more likely to be caused by a “glorious cock-up” than a state-sponsored cyber attack, according to Paul Simmonds, co-founder of the Jericho Forum and former CISO of AstraZeneca and ICI. Speaking at the “Cybergeddon – fact or fiction?” debate at the Imperial War Museum in London, Simmonds said it is more likely that all the DNS route servers will be taken out by a cascade action due to a botched router upgrade than a deliberate attempt by one government to bring down another.

Cybergeddon unlikely, say experts
Cybergeddon, a complete take-down of the internet, is undoubtedly within the power of some nation states, but is unlikely, say security industry experts. While we have seen cyber assaults of this sort on Estonia, nation states and even cyber criminals are unlikely to bring down the internet as they rely on it, Fred Piper told a roundtable discussion in London.

BYOD bandwagon jumpers “heading for a fall”
This was among the major concerns flagged up during a panel debate at the Imperial War Museum this morning on whether the world is facing ‘cybergeddon'. Although most panelists - rather anti-climactically - agreed that a state-sponsored attack that takes out the internet is unlikely, the consensus was that most end users are burying their heads in the sand when it comes to the new wave of threats.
